Brian Melaney - West Haven City Mayor

WATCH THE ATTACHMENTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE FOR SPECIAL EVENTS - PAST and FUTURE and FOR SPECIAL NOTICES FROM MAYOR MELANEY
Attributes: A straight shooter—speaks the truth straight up (just ask his mother of 55 years or mother-in-law of 32 years). Highly organized and focused.
Address: 2863 W. 3775 S.
Occupation: Business owner for 20 years
Family: Married, 7 Children, 6 Grandchildren

Remember, the mayor is a servant, not a king, pharaoh or dictator. The mayor has no vote—the 5 votes are all held by the council members. Therefore, I would do my best to establish a vision for the city and influence the city council according to what I believe and what the voice of the community is saying. (Again, I am in the phone book, but please remember I must still earn a living. I may have to return your call sometimes.)

My Vision for West Haven

OPENNESS IN GOVERNMENT—Agendas and minutes of council and planning meetings published in the local paper; an open office and listening ear; comment boxes located by the window at city hall where business is conducted (the boxes would only be opened by the mayor).

SUPPORT FOR THE ARTS—It would be interesting to see if the citizens would want an annual or biannual city play or musical to be held at the junior high.

SUPPORT FOR RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS—Activities that make sense and are supported by the citizens; these might include the normal sports, but also some crafts and secondary sports that don’t require as much budget (some of which would depend on finding space to conduct them, i.e. volleyball, arts and crafts, ping pong, and whatever is desired and supported by the citizens and the budget).

EMPHASIS ON FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY—Being a businessman for 20 years, I would review the revenues and expenses, control costs, and look for ways to make living in West Haven a better experience.

A FAIR AND BALANCED GROWTH PLAN—Balance between commercial development and maintaining the rural atmosphere that we all love. Development of business along
appropriate corridors that does NOT infringe on the rural setting that we all treasure. For example, 1900 West, 2100 South, and Midland between 4000 South and 4500 South seem
like good places for businesses.

SUPPORT FOR TRANSPORTATION—I would like to see the Legacy Highway built (especially when I am trying to get home from Salt Lake City late in the afternoon or early evening) if it would benefit our city and commerce.

BOTTOM LINE: I LOVE WEST HAVEN CITY AND, IF THE CITIZENS SO DECIDE, I WILL GIVE THE MAYOR’S OFFICE THE BEST ATTRIBUTES AND CHARACTERISTICS THAT I CAN MUSTER.
